As part of the plan to develop and rehabilitate natural beautification assets within Abu Dhabi Island, and in support of improving the quality of life, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, through the City Municipality Center, has completed the development and rehabilitation of the natural beautification elements of the traffic island on Sultan bin Zayed the First Street (Al Muroor), in the area between Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Street and Mohammed bin Khalifa Street in the Al Nahyan area.
Through the implementation of these works, the municipality aimed to improve the overall aesthetic and urban appearance of the city, enhance the quality of life to bring happiness to community members, increase the efficiency of municipal assets, promote sustainable natural beautification elements in the traffic island, reduce irrigation water consumption, and facilitate regular and future maintenance works.
The scope of work included the creation of subsidiary irrigation networks, protecting existing service lines, constructing a maintenance sidewalk along the edges of the traffic island, installing tiled paving, and forming dunes stabilized with sustainable and environmentally friendly adhesive materials. Additionally, flowering trees, ornamental shrubs, and ground cover plants were planted.
In detail, the works included creating 6,900 linear meters of subsidiary irrigation networks, building a 1,500-meter-long maintenance sidewalk on both sides of the median island, installing tiled paving over an area of 6,000 square meters, and stabilizing 2,000 square meters of dunes using adhesive materials.
The municipality also focused on enhancing natural beautification elements, with the work area witnessing the planting of 77,300 ornamental shrubs, 98 flowering trees, 6,750 cactus plants, 18,700 square meters of ground cover plants, and 13,800 seasonal flowers.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality reiterates its constant and ongoing commitment to enhancing sustainability standards and quality of life by implementing development and rehabilitation projects for natural beautification elements and increasing green spaces in various areas and facilities within its geographical scope.
