Abu Dhabi

To enhance the protection of construction workers in Abu Dhabi from potential hazards when working at height, the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, through the Municipal Services Sector - Environment, Health and Safety Department, organized a field campaign and awareness workshop on safety requirements when working at height. The workshop targeted construction workers in Abu Dhabi.
The campaign and workshop aimed to ensure that officials and workers at construction sites adhere to occupational safety requirements and to educate target groups about the potential hazards when working at height. During the campaign, which was organized at construction sites in Abu Dhabi, municipal inspectors ensured that workers at the sites adhered to safety requirements when working at heights. These requirements included ensuring the availability of fall protection systems, inspecting the work area, identifying potential hazards, and taking appropriate measures and precautions.
Construction site officials and workers were also reminded of the need to provide collective protection, such as the use of handrails, protective panels, and safety nets. They also emphasized the availability of personal protective equipment to prevent falls, such as wearing a full safety belt and attaching it to a safe point, and ensuring the availability of helmets, straps, and shoes appropriate for the nature of the work.
During the campaign, municipal employees emphasized the importance of inspecting all safety systems before use. All occupational safety equipment must be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure proper operation and worker safety. Regular equipment maintenance helps prevent potential malfunctions, thus enhancing worker safety. In a related development, the Environment, Health, and Safety Department organized a virtual awareness workshop targeting workers in the construction sector in Abu Dhabi. The workshop aimed to raise awareness among target groups about the need to provide protection for workers at height on construction sites, to reduce risks and increase safety.
The workshop emphasized that working at height is a critical issue with regard to occupational health and safety. Construction company owners and workers at construction sites must prioritize this issue to provide a safe work environment. This can be achieved by taking the right precautions and implementing effective strategies and various preventive measures to prevent and reduce accidents, as the construction sector is one of the sectors that most frequently involves work at height.
