The Department of Municipalities and Transport, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi City Municipality and the Fujairah Center for Geographic Information Systems, discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation relations between the two sides in many fields, and to benefit from successful and distinguished experiences to improve services and develop performance in a way that serves the community and contributes to achieving comprehensive development.
This came during the reception of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by the Operations Support Sector, and the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, represented by the City Planning Sector, a delegation from the Fujairah Center for Geographic Information Systems, headed by Dr. Ahmed Hassan Al Morshedi - Director General of the Fujairah Center for Geographic Information Systems.
The meeting covered many topics, the most important of which were: a review of the main policies and planning and implementation stages of the unified addressing and spatial guidance project in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality confirmed during the presentation that the Unified Addressing and Spatial Guidance Project in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (My Address) is a system that aims to name streets, number buildings and facilities, and add a postal code in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to facilitate the process of reaching any location within the emirate.
This advanced system is consistent with the best international practices and systems in addressing and spatial guidance, as the street names used highlight the importance of local culture and heritage, enhance national identity, and connect the present generation with the ancient history of the United Arab Emirates. Some points were also discussed, such as:
- The operational framework for the unified addressing system project for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
- Approving the geographical and administrative boundaries of municipalities and their affiliated regions and naming regions and neighborhoods.
- Developing unified systems and applications for addressing and geographical names.
- Ensuring the provision of a central database for addresses, address records, geographical names, and street naming.
- Coordinating and strengthening the partnership with government agencies and the private sector to implement and activate the unified addressing system for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and contribute to raising public awareness about the unified addressing system.
As for the benefits and positives of the addressing system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which are reflected on society, the municipality confirmed that this advanced system, compatible with international standards, achieves many benefits, including: ease of collecting information about statistical operations or public services, saving time for delivering services and goods, and enhancing logistical services. Enhancing the speed of response to various emergency services, reducing travel time and preserving the environment, increasing the performance of planning and business management processes, encouraging tourism movement, and creating a unified platform for addressing.
