In alignment with the wise policies and significant care provided by the government to all segments of society, particularly the esteemed group of People of Determination, Abu Dhabi City Municipality places great importance on addressing their needs and requirements. This commitment is reflected in the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects, as well as the creation of service and recreational facilities, ensuring that they meet the needs of this group to provide the best services and enhance their quality of life.
Building on these values and objectives, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, represented by the City Municipality Center, has completed a project to create 481 new parking spaces dedicated to serving People of Determination across Abu Dhabi Island. These parking spaces are strategically distributed to cover most areas, especially near mosques, parks, schools, and other facilities frequently visited by People of Determination.
The municipality has ensured that these parking spaces are equipped with all necessary facilities to accommodate the vehicles of People of Determination. Additionally, the city has also undertaken the maintenance, relocation, and review of the standards for existing parking spaces designated for this group, preparing them to meet modern standards and safely accommodate their vehicles.
The project includes creating and preparing 481 parking spaces, distributed as follows: 172 spaces for schools, 159 spaces for mosques, and 150 spaces for parks. The municipality has ensured that these parking spaces are located near the main entrances of the targeted facilities and the associated service facilities, such as shops, restaurants, and cafes in the parks.
To better meet visitors' needs, the number of parking spaces for People of Determination has been increased in these high-traffic facilities, particularly in mosques and parks. Additionally, the City Municipality Center has coordinated with some major parks to provide specialized wheelchairs for People of Determination, which can be requested from the parking area through dedicated phone numbers displayed at the parks. The municipality has also created designated park areas for charging electric wheelchairs.
The project also included maintaining and updating all existing parking spaces to ensure compliance with modern standards. All obstacles and barriers between the parking spaces and the facilities have been removed to facilitate easy and safe access.
Furthermore, the municipality has relocated some more distant parking spaces, strategically redistributing them near all entrances of extensive facilities. It has created drop-off zones and dedicated entrances for facilities without public parking areas.
It is worth noting that the City Municipality Center is currently working with strategic partners to study the initiative's next phase. This includes providing more parking spaces for People of Determination in additional facilities and service institutions, such as government agencies and private service institutions, and ensuring that a specific percentage of parking spaces are allocated for People of Determination with the total number of available parking spaces in various sectors.
