Al Ain City Municipality has completed the manufacture and installation of 7260 panels, within its project, to maintain and complete the addressing system and plates for Al Ain City, of which 4560 panels were installed for the internal streets of the areas inside and outside Al Ain City, while the number of building numbering plates reached 2288 panels, and the number of main street plates reached 420 panels.
The addressing project helps community members, businesses, and visitors to the city to easily reach any destination efficiently and effectively, by numbering buildings and naming streets, in areas inside and outside Al Ain city, with numbers for buildings and facilities, and street names, so that the address of the building is unique and never repeated in any other area of Al Ain.
The addressing project aims to provide a unique address for each building, consisting of a simplified and named numbering of the street, and the project also aims to provide a database of the outputs of the addressing project system, on geographic information systems (GIS), and to feed the central addressing platform for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at the Department of Municipalities and Transport with this data and update it in a sustainable manner.
The addressing system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi combines the latest technologies used in addressing, spatial guidance, providing names that reflect local culture and heritage, and immortalizing the names of personalities who were and still have prominent roles in the renaissance of the region.
The municipality indicated that 495 new streets were named and 1,005 street names were replaced with approved names, and plates were implemented with the names of a number of martyrs of the country and notable characters of the regions. During the current project Abu Dhabi Unified Spatial Addressing and Guidance System, a pioneering system based on the use of smart technologies, such as the Geographic Information System (GIS) and the QR Code Service, to provide smart infrastructure that facilitates the process of access and effective movement to various destinations in the emirate, and the new addressing system serves urgent emergency services for civil defense, ambulance services by hospitals, medical centers, clinics, and medical services provided by the police such as rescue, ambulance, etc., and the system in turn will contribute to reducing the response time to provide services through the completed building address elements, in addition to reducing the carbon emission of vehicles by shortening trip time.
The Urban Planning Department in the City Planning and Survey Sector in Al Ain City Municipality supervises the implementation of the project, where a GIS layer has been established to update the central database of addressing in the emirate, which includes all accurate and detailed data for numbering buildings, name plates of main streets and internal streets in regions and neighborhoods, in addition to area name plates, according to the boundaries of the approved areas, and according to the names approved by the higher authorities in the emirate, in addition to manufacturing and installing all these plates on the ground.
The Addressing and Geographical Names Section in the municipality also provides technical support for all development projects in Al Ain, through coordination with the higher authorities in the Department of Municipalities and Transport, to approve street names within these projects, in addition to following up the implementation of these names plates on the ground, as is currently being done in the infrastructure projects in Al Nud area and Al Leem neighborhood in Al Foah area, and the infrastructure and facilities project for 306 residential villas in Al Saad area.
