Led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), ‘For Abu Dhabi’ is a community initiative that creates, enhances and protects urban spaces and nature sites across the Emirate, making more attractive, vibrant and joyful places in which to live.
The initiative is part of the Abu Dhabi Government Accelerator Programme, Ghadan 21, to boost the Emirate’s liveability and quality of life for all residents by 2021.
Small and large-scale projects are being rolled out across Abu Dhabi ranging from new parks and playgrounds for children, sports facilities and contemporary artwork in public spaces.
Each project involves transformative improvements that are fundamental to social inclusion, community cohesion, health and wellbeing.
The approach is to integrate high-quality, vibrant and sustainable enhancements into the heart of the physical environment, while placing great importance on leisure, creativity and active living.
‘For Abu Dhabi’ projects follow three core themes: For Exploring, For Interacting and For Relaxing.
For Exploring: Captures the vibrancy, artistry and imagination of Abu Dhabi. These projects will add colour and creativity to the Emirate through artistic road-crossings, visual enhancements in school zones, as well as aesthetically pleasing pedestrian walkways and cycle paths that will encourage people to leave their cars at home and walk and cycle around the Emirate.
For Interacting: Encourages community members to be more active with modern recreation facilities. Children and adults can take advantage of new play and sports areas in urban spaces, including multi-use and recreational car parks. These innovative open spaces will create a vibrant and attractive atmosphere, encouraging outdoor activity and promoting healthier lifestyles.
For Relaxing: Delivers diverse settings for community interaction within the natural environment. Shaded rest areas and attractive public spaces will provide places where people can take a break from their day-to-day activities.
These exciting new improvements will be completed throughout Abu Dhabi by 2021.
